This review is from: LG 55LV4400 55-Inch 1080p 120 Hz LED-LCD HDTV (Electronics)
Ordered the 55-inch LG 55LV4400 flat screen after a lot of analysis and I'm really happy with it. First, the picture is bright and large and really great for sports and games. I tried various brightness choices and found one that worked good for the room quickly. Setup was fast. I took down the 37", removed the mounts, attached them to the LG, and hung it back up. This thing is thin, and light. It weighs less than the Vizio it replaced.
I only had two connections - HDMI and power, since I use an AV receiver. Selected the right HDMI input and its done. My Harmony Remote had a listing for the TV as well, so I was finished with setup in about 15 minutes.
The product was well packaged and protected.

I have owned five HDTVs in the last 7 years (either upgrading or adding additional HDTVs to my home ... or replacing one that my infant son destroyed with a metal soup ladle). Out of all the HDTV brands I've owned I can say that LG has consistently impressed me and this LG 42LV4400 is no exception.
The biggest selling point for this particular HDTV is the LED back light behind the LCD panel. The LED back lighting allows companies to make HDTVs that are MUCH thinner and lighter than what has been possible before. To put it in perspective, I can "barely" lift my old 42-inch HDTV by myself (and I risk injury in the process) but I can lift the LG 42LV4400 without any problems. Heck, I could probably lift two of these TVs (one in each arm) if the TVs had handles. This makes the HDTV easy to unpack, easy to install, and easy to move again later. If you decide to mount the 42LV4400 on a wall mount (sold separately) then the thin LED design makes the TV sit closer to the wall so it won't stick out like a sore thumb.
In terms of visual performance, this HDTV really shines. The contrast ratio is great (black looks BLACK and not charcoal gray) and colors appear pleasant right out of the box (though I'm sure the color is "a little" more saturated than it would be in real life). The 120Hz refresh rate helps when viewing fast action without "ghosting" on the screen, and the faster refresh rate may (in theory) help prevent eye strain for some people watching this TV. Bottom line, picture quality is GREAT.
My only complaint about this HDTV is that the speakers sound pretty flat (little bass and no real "depth" to the sound). I had to turn up the volume pretty high to get decent sound levels but then you get sound distortion from the speakers pushing harder than they should. Most people probably won't notice the audio issues I described, but I am an audiophile and I enjoy watching classical concerts so I immediately noticed the weak performance of the built-in speakers. In short, if you want a rich audio experience then you need to buy a HDMI receiver and some good home theater speakers.
Overall, I think this is a great HDTV and it seems to give good value for the asking price. Most HDTVs don't have "amazing" built-in speakers so the weak audio performance shouldn't be a deal breaker unless you REALLY care about audio and can't afford to add home theater speakers to this TV.

Playing HD channels and watching movies have been extremely pleasant to watch thus far. Playing games (xbox 360, ps3, and PC) look amazing. It makes the games vivid and so much more fun to play. Playing NHL 10, Xbox 360 Gears of War 3 Limited Edition Console Bundle, as well playing PC games like Battlefield 3 [Download] have been top notch. The games just feels optimized and scaled well. In this review I'll talk about some of the aspects of this HDTV, to determine whether you should get this TV for your everyday needs.
FEATURES
* 1080p 42 inch HDTV, about 2 inches thick
* TruMotion 120hz
* Connections: 3 HDMI ports, 1 USB, RGB (PC), AV/component in, cable/antenna, and audio in
* Energy saving
PICTURE QUALITY
- Picture quality can be mixed, but mostly good experiences. When playing HD channels like NBC, CBS, and ABC, the 1080p resolution makes it quite a joy to watch. It also depends on the channel, since some channels don't have quite as good HD.
- I love this TV for its gaming experience. Gaming (XBOX, PS3, PC) with this TV is an excellent experience.
- Watching DVDS like I, Robot (Widescreen Edition) feel smooth and the picture settings give you some options to choose how you'd like the picture to be.
- You can also manually change the settings, with the typical contrast, sharpness, brightess, etc. The preset settings are: Standard, Cinema, Game, Sport, and Vivid. I personally like the Game mode. It's not too bright and still makes the it bright enough for details of the screen to shine through.
- Overall, the picture quality is generally good and clear.
CUSTOMIZATION - Although the standard picture is good, this TV gives you choices to tinkering around with. You can easily change the ratio (16:9, 4:3, zoom, cinema zoom, set by program) in the menu. As I've mentioned, the different picture modes are standard, cinema, sport, game (my favorite), and vivid. Another plus is the energy saving option. It does make a difference, albeit small difference in the electricity usage. In energy saving mode, it's basically just dimmer and doesn't have much backlight.
DESIGN
- I love the frame and overall look of the TV. It's thin, light, and stylish. I like that the plug-in area (games, auxiliary, etc.) are facing down and not out. It saves quite a bit of space.
- The stand is a rectangular shape, which is nice because it's sleek and saves space.
- The only real drawback of the design is the placement of the TV buttons (power, volume, channel). The TV buttons are placed on the left side of the TV and behind the TV. I personally feel that placing the buttons on the front side of the TV would be a lot more convenient. I won't always want to use the remote, and using the buttons on this TV is a pain. I have to look behind the TV to press the buttons. Still, it's not a huge problem, but definitely can be a nuance.
